  • Chapter 51 “Continue Investigating”

“Boss…” Ma Er stared at Mu Chongyan, “…I suggest you stay here for the rest of the day. The new gene cells in your body are still regenerating, I think… ..it would be better to conduct a check every hour or so. What do you think?”

“Go and tidy up a room for me.”

Having not expected that his boss would agree so decisively. Ma’er was taken aback for a moment before quickly nodding in response: “Alright alright alright, well, I’ll be going then. Please wait for a while, boss.”

Ma’er closed the door gently, leaving behind only Mu Chongyan and Bai Rong to remain in the ice cold metal room.

Mu Chongyan squinted his eyes slightly, his complexion becoming darker. The sharp look he gave with his eyes looked as though it could condense into a tangible substance. The low air pressure he emitted made the surrounding air heavy.

“Chongyan…” Bai Rong looked at Mu Chongyan worriedly, and wanted to comfort him by hugging his wrist, but he couldn’t even climb out of his pocket…

After standing in place for a long time, Mu Chongyan’s expression gradually turned calm, and it was at this moment that Ma Er had opened the door.

“Boss, the room has been prepared.”

“Alright.” Mu Chongyan resumed his normal indifferent expression and turned his gaze to Ma’er, saying: “The cell genes can be tested every two hours. The next time…can be taken at nine o’clock.”

He now was 80% sure that his previous genes have been tampered with. And though this matter may sound absurd, the body’s sensations and reported data couldn’t be faked.

It’s just…who and what exactly was the purpose of the person who had tampered with his gene?!!

    “Understood.” Ma’er responded quickly.

Mu Chongyan walked into the room Ma’er prepared. The room was spacious, clean and warmly furnished, unlike the cold ward environment in the hospital.

Mu Chongyan gently took out the little star from his pocket and placed him on the bed.

The mattress on the bed was too soft. As soon as Bai Rong stepped on it, his foot was swallowed, disrupting his balance as his body shook left and right, making walking very difficult.

After finally reaching the side of Mu Chongyan’s thigh with much difficulty, Bai Rong’s two small hands clung onto Mu Chongyan’s trousers tightly, and he struggled to lift his short legs to climb up desperately.

The muscles on Mu Chongyan’s thighs felt a little warm and itchy from the little star pet’s movements, and the cold expression on his face twitched slightly. He immediately supported his little butt with one hand and lifted him up.

Bai Rong took a long breath, sighing that Mu Chongyan was fortunately considerate enough, before sitting down on Mu Chongyan’s lap.

“Chongyan, what do you think….about this matter?”

“I believe in the report as well as what my body feels.” Mu Chongyan looked at the little star pet sitting on his lap, and tried to make his voice sound cold, “I’m going to instruct the members of v67 to investigate the matter thoroughly and find out who….had dipped a hand in manipulating my genes.”

“…En. Investigate it carefully.” Bai Rong furrowed his brows and hugged Mu Chongyan’s fingers distressingly, wanting to give him his utmost strength and support.

There was no genetic relationship between Mu Chongyan’s new set of genes and his previous set of pseudogenes, which clearly shows that…Mu Chongyan was not only a fake child of Duke Mu and Mrs. Mu, he didn’t even have the slightest sliver of relationship with them…

Having his life experience suddenly become impossible to unravel and having no clue as to who his real parents and relatives were. To Mu Chongyan, this was quite a cruel reality. However,… thinking of the domineering and unreasonable Mother Mu who didn’t care about Mu Chongyan at all….Bai Rong somehow felt inexplicably glad at the same time.

He knew that not all mothers loved their children, but he still didn’t want Mu Chongyan to have such an unreasonable mother.

“Don’t worry about me.” Mu Chongyan gathered his hands slightly and gently covered the little star pet. His palms were filled with the little star pet’s warm body temperature which slowly seeped into his skin and travelled through the fine nerves, all the way until it reached his ice cold and tough heart, melting it down…

How could I not be worried…Bai Rong mumbled silently inside, but tried to relax as much as possible. He raised his little head and asked: “V67 is going to have to infiltrate into the gene bank to conduct this investigation. Will they….be able to do it?”

“It depends on the circumstances.” Mu Chongyan took Bai Rong into his hands and said: “The degree of confidentiality of the genetic information of civilians is definitely different from the degree of confidentiality of the genetic information of senior officers and the others. Shengya People’s Genetic Information Bank is divided into six levels, E-level and D-level are not difficult to infiltrate, hacker members in v67 could easily do it. However, C-level and B-level ones will be a bit difficult. As for A-level, it’s going to take a lot of effort, and as for S grade…I am afraid that we can only wait for Du Han to come back and give it a try for it to work.”

    “Du Han? Who’s Du Han?”

“A top-notch hacker.” Mu Chongyan rubbed Bai Rong’s little head and said, “There is no hacker more competent than him in the entire Sheng Ya. He was the one who had set up the firewall in your optical computer.”

    Wh-what?!!!!

The look in Bai Rong’s eyes changed abruptly, feeling as though he had encountered an enemy.

Didn’t that mean that… If Du Han wanted to hack into his optical computer, it would be easy for him to do it?!!

Then… Then wouldn’t his identity be easily exposed?

Bai Rong’s whole face sank, the helplessness and panic in his heart surging densely, blocking his heart and making it hard for him to breathe….

He definitely could not let Mu Chongyan discover his identity in advance. Otherwise, all his previous disguise and efforts would have been for naught.

Recalling that Mu Chongyan had suggested to help “Mu Nan” alter his physical data, even saying that only the lowest level of authority could be used to guard against hackers, now that he had thought about it again, he realized that he was simply deceiving him!

    Mu Chongyan, you big liar!!

    How cunning and hateful!

Seeing the little star pet lower his head and remain silent, Mu Chongyan stretched out his fingers and scratched his chin. “What’s wrong?”

Bai Rong clenched his small fist, suppressing the urge to hit Mu Chongyan and pressing the chaotic feelings he had in his heart down.

He was not a person who disregarded the overall situation. At present, Mu Chongyan’s affairs were more important. He wouldn’t raise a difference in opinion with Mu Chongyan just because of this matter.

He was the most sensible tough guy who also loved his wife the most!!

“It’s nothing….” Bai Rong raised his head and looked at Mu Chongyan, “Where is Du Han?”

“Du Han and Du Xiao were trapped in the Barren Star while they were out in their mission. However, they should be back in a few days.”

“How many days will it take them?” Bai Rong asked quickly.

“About a week.” Mu Chongyan rubbed Bai Rong’s small head, his eyes narrowed: “Don’t worry. Perhaps, we wouldn’t even need Du Han’s help to find out the results.”

“En…” Bai Rong pursed his lips, the emotions in his heart still running amok.

What if… the people who were related to Mu Chongyan also had S grade constitutions?

Or… if those people who had S-Class constitutions were not related to Mu Chongyan, what should they do then?

Bai Rong’s eyes were once again filled with worry and distress. He gently hugged Mu Chongyan’s wrist and pressed his small face against it. The helplessness and ire he felt in his heart once he realized he was being deceived before, had unwittingly disappeared without a trace…..

At nine o’clock in the evening, Ma’er came to take another sample of blood cells, and a test report was issued half an hour later.

The proportion of cells with new genes had reached 39%.

Its rate of growth was astounding.

After reading the test report this time, Mu Chongyan put Bai Rong back into the crystal glass case.

“It’s getting late, go back and rest. We’ll look at the rest of the report tomorrow morning, alright?”

“…Okay.” Seeing that Mu Chongyan looked a little tired, though Bai Rong initially felt a little reluctant, ultimately, he nodded in accord.

“Good…” Mu Chongyan couldn’t help but pick up Bai Rong again and kissed him on the head, “Head to bed early.”

“Ok.” Bai Rong also pecked Mu Chongyan’s fingertip. “Good night.”

    “Good night.”

… After returning to the villa, Bai Rong quickly ran into the bedroom, turned on the optical computer and logged into the virtual city.

Bai Rong took out the spell card materials and spent 40 minutes making an S-level virtual intermediate spell card. Then, he logged into the spell card mall and posted the newly made spell card.

The virtual intermediate spell cards he made before were all put away and hadn’t been sold because he was afraid that he would attract too much attention. However, now that the dark forces were rushing to persecute Mu Chongyan, he didn’t need to hide too much. On the contrary, it was better to show his edge out a little bit more to earn more money and fame so that he could help Mu Chongyan in the future.

After creating another virtual intermediate spell card, Bai Rong checked its carter value and found that the data was very close to reaching SS level, then he put it away. Taking out the previous S-level virtual intermediate spell card with the lowest carter value, he posted this for sale..

As soon as he posted the spell card, Bai Rong’s wristwatch flashed

“Mr. Mu, can I ask what time you’ll be leaving for the competition tomorrow?——Wei Huai.”

After reading through the message, Bai Rong remembered that he had made an appointment with Mu Chongyan to go to the competition venue together.

“The competition will start at 1 o’clock in the afternoon tomorrow. What time does Mr. Wei think is appropriate?”

“Central City is rather far from Saiya City. It would take about three hours to travel. Moreover, there will be a lot of people who will rush to Central City tomorrow to see the grand competition. In order to avoid being stuck in a traffic jam, we must leave at least four hours in advance.”

“Alright.” Bai Rong sent a message, “Then, I’ll see you at the entrance of Saiya City’s AS Virtual Spell Card Union Building at nine o’clock.”

Mu Chongyan immediately replied back: “Noted.”

After closing the contact window with Mu Chongyan, Bai Rong created another intermediate spell card for a while, then stored it inside his spatial button before exiting the virtual city.

After leaving the virtual city, Bai Rong took a quick wash, and drilled into his quilt, falling asleep.

    ……The next day.

Bai Rong got up, scanned, recorded, and washed as usual, and then ran out of the crystal glass case.

“Chongyan…” The crystal glass case was placed on a cabinet that was very close and on an equal level to the bed yesterday. As such, Bai Rong was able to run unimpeded towards Mu Chongyan’s bedside.

However, after stepping on the bed, his running was not as smooth as it was before. The quilt was too soft so the footsteps he took were sometimes deep and sometimes shallow. After some time, Bai Rong had finally reached the side of Mu Chongyan’s head, and had just wanted to play a prank on Mu Chongyan by shouting loudly but had nearly fell onto Mu Chongyan’s pillow unsteadily.

Bai Rong immediately quivered before quickly stabilizing himself, After fumbling and walking to the side of Mu Chongyan’s pillow, he then sat down obediently.

With a soft voice, he said, “Chongyan is a lazy pig, he actually hasn’t gotten up yet.”

As soon as Bai Rong’s voice fell, Mu Chongyan opened his eyes. When he saw the little star pet, who was sitting next to his pillow, looking at him with bright eyes, his emotionless eyes immediately lit up with a gentle smile.

Mu Chongyan sat up slowly and gently fished Bai Rong into his hand.

    “Got up so early today?”

“It’s not early anymore. It’s you who got up late.” Bai Rong shook his head.

“It’s my fault then.” Mu Chongyan smiled before gently putting Bai Rong down, and saying: ” I will go and wash up while you play here for a while.”

He had just fallen asleep an hour and a half ago, so he still felt a little exhausted.

After Mu Chongyan washed up, Ma’er came knocking on the door.

    “Boss, can I come in?”

    “Come in.”

Ma’er opened the door, holding the instrument for collecting blood samples and tissue cells.

“Where is the previous report?” Seeing Ma’er coming again, Bai Rong hurriedly tugged Mu Chongyan’s finger.

“Here.” Mu Chongyan took out a stack of reports from his spatial button and placed them on the bed.

Bai Rong hurriedly leaned over, flipping through the huge papers with difficulty.

    “Forty-seven percent, sixty percent, seventy-two percent, eighty-three percent…”

The cells in Mu Chongyan’s body have renewed so much, it was so fast!

“Boss, there will be a housekeeping robot bringing the food over in a while.” Ma’er put away the instrument, “I’m going to test it first.”

“Alright.” Mu Chongyan patted Ma’er on the shoulder: “Sorry to trouble you.”

“It’s no trouble. It’s no trouble.” Ma’er revealed an extremely big and foolish smile before running away with the instrument excitedly.

    Bai Rong: “…”

Why did he think that Ma’er just now looked a bit like Walter…

After breakfast, Bai Rong returned to the crystal glass case. After all, he was going to meet up with Mu Chonyan earlier at the As Virtual Spell Card Union Building so It was better to prepare earlier.

After seeing the little star pet run back to the crystal glass case, Mu Chongyan turned on his optical computer, and before he was about to log into the virtual city, he received a message from the v67 hacker group.

“Boss, all the information in the E-level, D-level and C-level gene banks have been searched and compared, and none of the information shared any relations to the genetic information you sent.”

Mu Chongyan’s gaze did not change at all. He merely sent two words back in response.

    “Continue investigating.”
